Inme/Symphony Cult/Zeroscape Talking Heads, Southampton 30th September 2009
Tonight sees the Talking Heads in Southampton play host to rock band Inme who are out on tour promoting their latest album "Herald Moth" which shows a whole new side to the band talents, the band recorded the album as a four piece, however just before the tour started drummer Simon and new guitarist Ben were involved in a car accident, Simon escaped virtually unscathed, Ben seriously broke his arm which ruled him out of the band for at least the rest of the year, Inme decided to soldier on with the tour adapting to their original 3 piece. Zeroscape from Toronto, Canada arrived onstage with lead singer "Binski" draped with a Canadian flag looking like he was a boxer ready to get in the ring, with the rest of the band also stripped to their waists ready for action they start their "reggae metal" style of music a fusion of metal with reggae and ska. Guitarist "Speshalitz" was sporting some evil looking face paint and a huge afro wig which covered most of his face, how he was able to see to play his guitar I will never know. The sound is powerful and the audience really does not know what has hit them, "Binski" tirelessly works the crowd whipping them up and urging audience participation this soon pays off with the audience singing along to a metal version of the Bob Marley classic "Get Up Stand Up". The band end their fast paced set with a track called "Friday Night" from their lastest EP which goes down really well and the band gets a large amount of appreciation as they leave the stage. The 2nd support act is London band Symphony Cult a 5 piece metal band fronted by lead singer Charlotte Lubbock who arrives on stage takes the microphone and says "Hello Northampton" the shocked crowd were stunned to silence with a short gap with then a few sniggers at this hilarious moment, Charlotte did not realize her error and said it again, one of the other members of the band whispered in her ear they were actually in Southampton a "Spinal Tap" moment if ever there was one, not the best start to their evening. The band can best described as being along the similar lines of the likes of "Lacuna Coil" and "Within Temptation" with bags of passion and determination. Despite their difficult entrance the band emerged with the crowd on their sides, playing tracks from their recently released album "Rewind to Fast Forward", with "The Riddle" and "Until Tomorrow" sounding atmospherically impressive. The band's twin guitar sound along with Charlotte's agreeable vocals have impressed various Festivals throughout the summer along with praise in the rock music press and tonight winning over a many new fans from those in the audience. Inme's Dave McPherson said that Inme have never been the coolest band in the world and they never follow any trends or fashions within the music industry, however what they do have in bucket loads of guts and determination which really shine through during their performances. They have sold the venue out tonight and it is packed with old and new expectant fans looking to be entertained. Inme do not disappoint from the moment they arrive on stage, the crowd are with them, making the band feel right at home. The 3 piece kick off with "Myths and Photographs" which gets the crowd moving with a huge mosh pit in the middle of the room. Brothers Dave and Greg leap around the stage and really look as they are really enjoying playing the new material from the new album, Dave does struggle a little to cover all the guitar parts on "You Won't Hear From Me Again" as Ben really does add 2nd dimension to their sound. The new single is called "Single of the Weak" which takes a dig at reality music style TV shows and has the chorus "What's that Shit on the Radio" which sees the whole of the venue even the bar staff singing along. The set end's with "Faster the Chase" that sees a mass moshing frenzing from eveyone in the audience.Tonight show's the band triumph after a string of bad luck, the album should hopefully lift the band on to bigger and greater things, no other band deserve this as much as Inme.
